Sweetheart Spotlight: Jacob DeWeese & Lydia (Dillow) DeWeese, Class of 2013
We met in 3rd grade at Chapelwood Elementary, back when relationships were built on seating charts. We started dating in 7th grade (2008), with our first official date at the Regal Shiloh Movie Theater in Avon. Our lockers were always next to each other every year due to alphabetical luck.
Ben Davis was a big part of our foundation. We showed up for each other early and often with Lydia at baseball games, Jake at volleyball matches and golf tournaments. Most of our time was spent at BD athletic events, especially during the stretch when girls basketball went undefeated two years in a row. Off-campus dates were Noble Roman’s, Rockin’ Rollers, Hanna Haunted Acres, the Clermont Drive-In, Western Bowl, and whatever BD event was happening that week. We think we might’ve won Senior Superlatives for High School Sweethearts, but can't remember and don't have a yearbook but remember posing for something.
We went to Indiana University together, graduated, and got married in 2019, with our 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Harrell, in attendance—full circle moment. We stayed in Bloomington while Jake went to optometry school and Lydia built her career in corporate marketing.
Now we live in Atlanta with our dog and two cats. Jake is an optometrist, Lydia owns her own event marketing agency, and we still come back to Indy every Memorial Day for Race Weekend in Speedway. We travel whenever we can and will always show up for the IU Hoosiers.
Started early. Built steadily. Still us.
